You can also upload or drag-and-drop PDF, Word (.docx), and plain text (.txt) files, or images (PNG/JPG) — text is extracted automatically, including via OCR for images.

Can Retardify explain code in any programming language?

Yes — JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Rust, Go, C++, Java, SQL, Solidity, and 20+ others, plus most languages it hasn't seen a name for yet, since the explanation comes from the underlying AI model's own understanding of the syntax, not a fixed list.

Does it work on old or unfamiliar code, like COBOL or Perl?

Generally yes. The model can explain legacy and less-common languages the same way it explains mainstream ones — this is one of the more useful cases, since documentation for old codebases is often thin or missing entirely.

Can I paste a whole file, or does it need to be a small snippet?

Either works. Paste a short snippet for a quick explanation, or a whole file for a fuller breakdown — for very large files, breaking them into logical sections (e.g. one function or class at a time) usually gives more focused, useful results.

What does the Retardifier slider do?

It controls how much the output is simplified, from 0 to 100. Around 0–20 makes minimal changes and just defines jargon inline. 21–50 is moderate — plain synonyms and examples. 51–80 is significant — lists, analogies, short sentences. 81–100 is maximum: grade-school level, every uncommon term defined. You set it once per session and it applies to every response until you change it.

How do follow-up questions work?

After a response, type a follow-up in the same composer and send it — Retardify remembers the document you just processed and answers based on that context. Each follow-up is a separate request (1–3 credits depending on the tier).

Can I save or export explanations?

Yes. Hover any AI response to reveal three buttons: Copy to clipboard, Download as PDF, and Download as Word document. Your session history is also saved in the sidebar for easy reference.

We use a mix of leading AI models under the hood, and route each request automatically based on your content — you just pick a tier. Retardify (1 credit) is fast and cost-effective for everyday simplifying. Retardify Pro (3 credits) uses our best models, auto-selected for the job — sharper on code, legal, medical, and nuanced content.

How much does Retardify cost?

Free: 25 credits/month, reset automatically every 30 days. Monthly Pro: $10/month for 1,000 credits with rollover (max 3,000). Yearly Pro: $100/year for 15,000 credits with rollover (max 18,000). One-time credit packs are also available: 500 credits for $8, 1,500 for $16, or 5,000 for $35.

What counts as a credit?

Retardify costs 1 credit per request. Retardify Pro costs 3 credits per request. File uploads don't cost extra — only the explanation request itself does.

Do unused credits roll over?

Free tier credits do not roll over — they simply reset every 30 days. Pro subscription credits do roll over, up to your plan's cap (3,000 on Monthly, 18,000 on Yearly). One-time credit packs never expire.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes, at any time from your Account page. You keep your remaining credits and access until the end of the current billing period, then automatically return to the free tier.

Credit purchases and subscriptions are generally non-refundable due to the computational cost of AI processing, but refunds may be granted at our discretion for technical errors or service outages. See the Terms of Service for details.

Is my data secure and private?

Yes. All text processing is transient — we do not permanently store the content you submit. Text is processed in real time and discarded after delivery. Only your account information (email, credits, subscription status) is stored, securely, in our encrypted database.

No. Documents and text you submit are processed in-memory only and not stored on our servers. Your session history (past simplifications) is saved locally in your own browser, not on our servers.
